We love Playmobil and my son (age 4) requested this advent calendar, which I ordered months ago together with a unicorn one for my daughter. Last night I spent about 3 hours making up the little boxes and sorting the pieces into their boxes (they are not grouped together in the plastic bags) and finally fitting the boxes onto the hanging calendar backing. The box does warn parents that you have to assemble it, but the estimate of 25 minutes is laughable. I'm a handy person and crafter so pretty nimble fingered, but each calendar took about 1.5 hours to do. The toys are cute, but I'm not sure they are worth the trouble. We had a Lego advent calendar last year (only a little more expensive) and that had the distinct advantage of being already assembled: you open the front of the box like a book and the numbered windows are ready to be opened. The Lego one could also stand up on the mantelpiece whereas the Playmobil ones are large and have to be hung because the backing is a prefolded piece of cardboard that caves in and threatens to drop all the little boxes (so painstakingly mounted on their tabs!).
The assembly time and trouble is the reason I gave this toy 3 stars overall, otherwise Playmobil is 5 stars all the way!
