This is one of our favorite TRIO sets. As a teacher for most of my life and a licensed family childcare provider, I am choosy about the toys and activities I purchase for my children and childcare. When Fisher Price announced their new TRIO blocks, I knew I had to check them out as FP makes some of the best toys, known for quality, creativity, durability, and fun. Our kids love Duplos, Legos, and MegaBloks...pretty much anything they can build, so TRIOs fit the trend. I tried them in store before we purchased the tub from Amazon. Our kids can't get enough. They click together easily for our kids, ages 3+. Our 2-year old son can put them together on his own about 70% of the time. Since the ages on the boxes range from 3 - 7, I'd say TRIOs are easy to put together. They are AWESOME for improving fine motor (small muscle) skills, creativity, pattern recognition, sorting and classifying (by shape, piece, and color), and are just plain fun! I am constantly amazed by the unique creations our kids design, all from such seemingly-simple blocks and pieces.
Our boys love fire engines, fire trucks, and pretty much anything that goes. Plus, they adore their uncle, who is a firefighter. This set was a natural hit. The fire truck is probably their favorite part, no surprise there. They can build onto it, which makes it more exciting!
I am saddened by some of the negative Amazon reviews I've read on TRIO sets, all of which criticize them for being difficult for children. Yes, they are tougher to take apart, but my kids (and I) like this because it means fewer tears are shed when they drop their creations...they stay together! Drop a Duplo or MegaBlok creation and you'll have pieces everywhere. You have to decide what is more important to you, I guess.
We had the tub and this set for more than a year, but all of the kids seem to gravitate to them at once; there just weren't enough! So, for our son's upcoming 3rd birthday, we purchased 5 other TRIO sets. All of them are wonderful (we tested them). Plus, the combination possibilities are endless and the directions they provide are clear and easy-to-follow (I cannot do Legos). Please take it from someone who's seen thousands of toys come and go: TRIOS are a wonderful step between Duplos/MegaBloks and the smaller Legos, mostly for ages 2 -7. I hope this helps!
