(More customer reviews)Wave 35 in the Iron Man 2 film series continues with the Hammer Drone and Pepper Potts 2 pack. The Hammer Drone is a weird figure; it technically shows up for about 30 seconds in the film, when Ivan Vanko sees and promptly rips the head off the drone. In other words, one of the army builder figures in this wave doesn't really do much in the movie. Nonetheless, it's a neat figure, done all in gray with bulky chest and crotch pieces, as well as big gauntlets and boots to make it look more imposing. And it is; it towers over pretty much every other minimate. The head has a distinctly robotic look, and there are yellow and black "danger" stripes painted on the arms and torso. One look at this bad boy and even Iron Man would question whether he wants to battle it. It comes with no accessories, but since it has gatling guns sculpted into its gauntlets, it doesn't need any.
The Pepper Potts figure is a new sculpt, based on Gwyneth Paltrow's portrayal of Tony Stark's long-suffering personal assistant. As I said, the head sculpt is new, and while it's a better likeness than the one from the Iron Man 1 set, it's still not really Paltrow. As opposed to the stern look from the first figure, this one comes with a smirk, which adds some character, and a new hairpiece, a VAST improvement over the first figure's lion's mane. The body sculpt is new as well, a sleeveless top with a skirt (versus the original's pantsuit). Actually, what I don't understand is this: Paltrow wears her hair up in a ponytail for most of the events in both films, and yet both versions opt instead for a loose hairstyle. Indeed, this particular figure is based on Paltrow's look on the plane ride back from Monaco, a scene which lasts all of about a minute. Regardless, it's well done, and in a nice touch, there's a prominent collarbone but barely any bustline, in keeping with Paltrow's skinny figure. The figure's only accessory is a bracelet.
Both figures are a welcome addition to the Iron Man 2 set.
