(More customer reviews)I've found that the Best-Lock brand is a great alternative to Legos at the right price (other alternatives lose due to the fact that they're no much cheaper than Legos, nor are they as usable on account of having so many large pieces that don't actually have to be made from the standard blocks). The Coast Guard and Lighthouse set is no exception. Due to some good experience with Best-Lock sets this past Christmas, I picked this one up on-sale for my nephew, who is a regular Lego fanatic. Overall, the quality is very nice, although probably not quite up to Lego standards, due to a few loose pieces. There were no missing pieces though, and once you started putting everything together, it held together rather nicely. We were able to put it all together in about an hour, and my nephew loved every minute of it (and continues to love it, using his imagination and the blocks to make several other things since). To purchase a comparable Lego set I would have had to pay 3-4 times as much easily, which means I wouldn't have been able to get it since this was just a little "thinking of you" type of gift, no real occasion. The bottom line is that I save money and my nephew continues to love the Best-Lock sets. Everyone wins.
