(More customer reviews)I am not partial to this particular design, especially the use of a big single-piece molding for the nose. But this is easily redesigned. One of the nice things that Lego did with this train is offer extra cars and engines separately. It is not clear that this strategy worked out business-wise, as Lego seems to have renounced individual car sets. But for this train, it meant you could build your train as you wished.
The set included a combined engine and passenger section as well as a single coach (with an accessible baggage compartment). It has three mini-figures, a small station platform, and 16 pieces of track (for a circle). The set has modest playability.
This set comes from the 9 volt era of Lego trains. 9 volt runs on electrified track. Lego discontinued the system in 2007; motors and metal covered track have become increasingly scarce. The new "Power Function" trains use the same gauge track but they employ infrared remote control and battery-powered engines.
